Complex three-dimensional structures can be difficult to record accurately underwater but one method that has been used successfully is 3D photogrammetry. Photogrammetry is the science of making measurements from photographs. Photogrammetry includes taking simple measurements from photographs and making photomosaics but in this case we are talking about 3D Photogrammetry, making 3D computer models of archaeological sites from photographs.
It has been suggested that computer vision photogrammetry is the preferred name for this method, but other names include multi-image photogrammetry, close range photogrammetry and Structure from Motion (SfM) Photogrammetry
3D Photogrammetry is best done on flat sites in clear water with good natural light using good quality cameras. However, it can be done under different conditions and with lower quality cameras and we will see later what happens to the quality of the
