| The book contains a series of exercises that allow you to get familiar with all the features in
Site Recorder 4.
The exercises should be completed in the order given as later exercises use knowledge gained in previous work or use Site
files created in earlier exercises. Earlier chapters cover features that are most commonly used leaving the later
chapters
to cover more advanced features.

| Underwater Surveying and Recording
(NAS Part III Level) |

This two-day NAS Part III course covers the theory and practice of surveying
and recording underwater. The course builds on the skills learned in the
Part 1 course and provides the knowledge required to complete an assessment
survey or a site survey using 3D trilateration (DSM). Part of the course
covers survey theory with the intention of showing the students why survey best
practice should be used underwater.
The course is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation and
consists of 60 slides.
The minimum student requirement for this course is the NAS Part 1 Certificate in
Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology.

of Digital Data in Maritime Archaeology (NAS Part III Level) |

This
course provides an understanding of the principles and practice of archaeological data management for maritime archaeological sites.
This will be achieved by a combination of lectures and practical sessions involving data from real underwater
and intertidal sites. The course is aimed at NAS Part 3 level and for professional archaeologists wanting to increase their knowledge of data management techniques.
It is intended that participants will complete the course with an understanding of the principles and practice of
archaeological data management.
Participants will:
be able to
-
identify the issues surrounding archaeological data management,
-
be familiar with techniques and methods appropriate to the particular stage of the project;
-
have the ability to plan and execute recording fieldwork (although to some extent this is assumed knowledge)
-
be able to use Site Recorder to complete an NAS Part 2 survey project
-
be able to provide advice and guidance to NAS members on issues of data management
The course is aimed primarily at those responsible for the management of project archives but the explanations of the
issues surrounding data management will be relevant to all. There is no
minimum requirement for this course.
